Christmas window lights can mean completely different things. You can fill the glass with a curtain of LEDs, hang illuminated stars across it, or use one large silhouette as the entire decoration.
The best choice isn’t really about who offers the most LEDs. It’s about how much window you want to cover, how you’ll hang the lights, where the power comes from, and what the whole thing looks like switched off as well as on.
How much window do you want to decorate?
Five different setups. Choose the display before the LED count.
| Product | Style | Coverage | Power | Control | Mounting | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ollny 2m × 2m / 200 LED curtain | Plain curtain | 2m wide × 2m drop | USB / 5V | 8 modes | 10 hooks supplied | A plain warm-white curtain for normal windows |
| Joycome 3m × 3m / 300 LED curtain | Large plain curtain | 3m wide × 3m drop | Plug-in / 31V system | 8 modes / 6h on, 18h off timer | Supplied accessories unconfirmed | Larger windows, patio doors and wide glazing |
| Christow 1m × 1m / 40 LED star curtain | Decorative star curtain | 1m wide × 1m drop | 3 × AA / not included | 6h on / 18h off timer | Suction cups or hooks suggested; not supplied | A simple cordless Christmas display |
| Jsdoin 12-star / 138 LED curtain | Decorative star curtain | ≈2.5m × 2.5m listed; confirm drop | USB or 3 × AA | Remote / 8 modes | Supplied accessories unconfirmed | Stars with remote and flexible power options |
| Taylor & Brown 65cm / 150 LED star | Rope-light star silhouette | ≈65cm focal decoration | Mains | 8 modes | Hardware and support method unconfirmed | One bold focal point instead of filling the glass |
Coverage is width × drop for curtains; the single star is a focal decoration. Joycome, Jsdoin and Taylor & Brown rely on weaker listing/secondary evidence. Unconfirmed mounting accessories are not assumed to be included.
Five ways to light a window
Plain curtains, decorative stars and one bold focal point.
Ollny 2m × 2m / 200 LED curtain
A simple starting point when you want to fill a window with warm-white light rather than specific Christmas shapes.
- Coverage
- 2m wide / 2m drop
- LEDs / strands
- 200 / 10 × 20
- Lead
- 3m
- Power
- 5V USB
- Control
- 8 modes
- Mounting
- 10 hooks supplied
The 2m top cable carries ten 2m hanging strands, with 20 LEDs per strand: 200 in total. Ollny specifies a 3m lead, USB power and eight modes, with ten hooks supplied. Plan where the USB connection and a suitable power source will sit.
The trade-off. A curtain covers plenty of glass, but its wires and lead are still there in daylight. A beautifully covered window with a cable stretched diagonally across the room somewhat spoils the effect.
Research notes
- Exact warm-white ASIN B0BQVYZD5T is identified on Ollny’s UK page. Dimensions, strand count, lead, USB power, eight modes and ten hooks come from first-party documentation.
- Ollny advertises IP44, but separate USB connection/power-supply ratings are not established here. Do not treat the whole installation as waterproof.
- The page does not establish that a UK USB wall adapter is included. Check the exact pack and power requirements.
- No hands-on testing, review counts or exact-variant owner-feedback analysis is claimed.
Joycome 3m × 3m / 300 LED curtain
The reason to choose this over the 2m Ollny is coverage. Measure the glass before buying more curtain.
- Listed coverage
- 3m wide / 3m drop
- Listed LEDs
- 300 / 10 strings
- Power
- Plug-in / 31V system
- Control
- 8 modes / 6h on, 18h off
- Connection claim
- Up to 4 matching sets
- Mounting
- Accessories unconfirmed
Current secondary and marketplace descriptions list 300 warm-white LEDs over ten hanging strings, 3m wide with a 3m drop. They describe a 31V plug-in system, eight modes and a repeating six-hours-on / eighteen-hours-off timer. Up to four matching sets can be connected according to the listing; confirm the exact instructions before expanding it.
The trade-off. Evidence is weaker than Ollny’s first-party specification. The listed IP65 claim does not establish separate adapter/controller protection, and supplied mounting accessories are unconfirmed. Christmas lights are surprisingly bad at expanding after delivery.
Research notes
- Supplied ASIN B0DC58MNN7 matches the secondary page’s SKU. Model JK-UK300CLNB appears in a matching eBay seller listing; exact UK pack identity still needs confirmation.
- No equally strong first-party manufacturer page was found. OnBuy seller copy supports the dimensions, ten strings, 31V, timer and four-set connection claim; it is not independent laboratory verification.
- IP65 is a listing-level claim. Component-specific ratings and mounting accessories remain unresolved. Do not infer that the plug, controller and lights share one rating.
- The Amazon page could not be independently retrieved. No ratings, representative review analysis or physical testing is claimed.
Christow 1m × 1m / 40 LED star curtain
Unmistakably Christmassy, without covering the whole window or running a cable to a wall socket.
- Coverage
- 1m wide / 1m drop
- Stars / LEDs
- 40 / 5 wires × 8
- Power
- 3 × AA / not included
- Timer
- 6h on / 18h off
- Battery box
- IP44 / 1m clear lead
- Mounting
- Accessories not supplied
Five clear hanging wires each carry eight illuminated stars. Christow specifies 1m width and drop, three AA batteries and a repeating six-hours-on / eighteen-hours-off timer. The IP44-rated battery box has a 1m clear lead, so it can sit away from the hanging display.
The trade-off. Mounting accessories and batteries are not supplied. Christow suggests suction cups or Command hooks indoors. The lights being pretty is only half the problem. Eventually they have to remain attached to the bloody window.
Research notes
- First-party Christow documentation verifies the layout, dimensions, batteries, timer, clear wires and 1m battery-box cable. The range offers warm-white and multicolour variants; check the selected colour.
- Christow explicitly suggests suction cups or Command hooks for indoor windows and states mounting accessories are not included.
- The published IP44 rating applies specifically to the battery box. The brand permits indoor/outdoor display; do not invent separate light-string ratings.
- Exact Amazon UK ASIN has not been verified. No battery runtime, physical testing or review analysis is claimed.
Jsdoin 12-star / 138 LED curtain
Christow is simpler. Jsdoin adds remote control and a choice of USB or battery power.
- Listed layout
- 12 stars / 138 LEDs
- Listed coverage
- ≈2.5m × 2.5m; confirm
- Power
- USB or 3 × AA
- Control
- Remote / 8 modes
- Mounting
- Accessories unconfirmed
- Weather claim
- IP65 / secondary listing evidence
Secondary descriptions identify 12 stars and 138 warm-white LEDs, USB or three-AA power, a remote and eight modes. A matching-ASIN overseas reseller lists roughly 2.5m × 2.5m dimensions, but other fields conflict; confirm the actual width and longest drop before buying for a particular window.
The trade-off. The evidence is listing-level, not robust manufacturer documentation. IP65 is an advertised claim, not verified protection for every connection. If the lights will stay on one steady mode each evening, the extra controls may matter less.
Research notes
- Supplied ASIN B09F9MGG54 matches both linked secondary sources. No robust first-party documentation was found; the Amazon page could not be independently retrieved.
- The reseller lists remote control, three AA batteries and 2.5 × 2.5 × 0.9m dimensions, but also a conflicting 90cm item length and questionable Bluetooth metadata. Do not infer Bluetooth/app control; exact longest drop needs checking.
- The secondary page describes IP65 for lights and battery box. This is weaker listing evidence, not a manufacturer-confirmed component specification. The USB connection/supply rating is unconfirmed.
- Supplied mounting accessories and timer behaviour remain unverified. No review counts, testing or representative owner analysis is claimed.
Taylor & Brown 65cm / 150 LED star
Not every window needs to be filled. Here, the star is the entire decoration.
- Listed size
- ≈65cm
- Listed LEDs
- 150
- Style
- Rope-light silhouette
- Power / control
- Mains / 8 modes
- Supplied lead claim
- ≈5m / confirm exact pack
- Mounting
- Hardware unconfirmed
The supplied model 20575 is described as an approximately 65cm rope-light star with 150 LEDs and eight modes. The ASIN’s indexed product title supports those core features and mains operation. Supplied listing research describes about 5m of cable and an IP44 transformer for indoor or suitably sheltered outdoor use; those extra details need exact-pack confirmation.
The trade-off. Its evidence trail is mainly marketplace and aggregator material. Confirm the hanging method, weight and included hardware rather than assuming suction cups will support it. Less subtle winter ambience. More: BIG STAR. THERE.
Research notes
- Supplied ASIN B0FVMQM8KL matches the indexed Taylor & Brown title: 65cm, 150 LEDs, eight modes and mains operation. No strong first-party manufacturer page was located.
- Model 20575, approximately 5m cable, IP44 transformer and sheltered-outdoor wording come from supplied listing research and were not independently verified against the exact pack. Similar Christow star products are not used to fill the gaps.
- Mounting hardware, support method, weight and separate light/connection ratings remain unconfirmed. Check exact installation instructions before hanging or using outdoors.
- The Amazon page could not be independently retrieved. No fabricated ratings, testing or owner-feedback analysis is claimed.
Curtain lights or one big silhouette?
Plain curtain
A broad glow across plenty of glass. Ollny and Joycome suit this job, with different widths and drops.
Decorative curtain
The stars are part of the decoration. Christow and Jsdoin give the window a recognisably festive shape.
Single silhouette
One large focal point, with fewer hanging strands. Useful when blinds, curtains or a small window already make the space visually busy.
None is universally better. Decide how much glass you want to cover and how much decoration you want to see.
Measure the window before you buy
Measure the window width and the drop you actually want, then the route to USB or mains power. Choose a resting place for the controller or battery box. Check whether curtains, blinds and the opening window will need to move past the lights.
A 2m × 2m curtain and a 3m × 3m curtain are very different once hung. If the window is 1.4m wide, a 3m curtain isn’t automatically better value. It’s just considerably more curtain than window.
For Jsdoin, confirm the longest hanging drop: the available reseller dimensions are not consistent enough to promise an exact fit. Don’t assume surplus curtain strands can be cut off.
Battery, USB or mains?
Battery
No cable to a wall socket, useful for an isolated window. Christow still needs somewhere for its battery box, and batteries need replacing. We do not promise a runtime.
USB
Ollny works when a suitable USB supply or power bank is nearby. Check power requirements, adapter contents and the lead route. Jsdoin’s listed USB option adds flexibility.
Mains
Joycome and Taylor & Brown suit a settled display near a sensible socket. Allow space for the plug/controller and keep the lead out of moving curtains.
The best power type depends mainly on where the nearest sensible source of electricity is.
Suction cups, hooks and keeping the bloody things up
Ollny supplies ten hooks. Christow suggests suction cups or Command hooks indoors, but supplies neither. For Joycome, Jsdoin and Taylor & Brown, included mounting accessories were not verified: check the pack before ordering extras.
Clean the glass before using suction cups and follow the mount’s preparation and weight limits. Support a curtain across its top cable rather than asking one attachment to carry the entire display. A large silhouette needs a support method suited to its weight; a tiny suction cup is not automatically suitable.
Keep the opening window clear, avoid cables snagging on blinds or curtains, and give the battery/controller box somewhere secure to sit. Don’t leave it dangling from the lights.
A Christmas star slowly sliding down the window at 3am is festive only in retrospect.
What will they look like during the day?
Product photos usually show lights glowing at night. By day you may see wires, hooks, suction cups, boxes, controllers and power leads. Christow’s clear hanging wires reduce visual clutter; they do not make it invisible.
If this is a front or living-room window you see constantly, plan the cable route with the lights switched off in mind. One silhouette may look tidier than a curtain of wiring, depending on the space.
Inside the window isn’t the same as outside
Lights hung indoors facing through glass do not need rain protection just because people outside can see them. Lights physically mounted outdoors need suitable weather protection for their actual location.
IP ratings can apply to specific components. Christow identifies its battery box as IP44; Ollny’s IP44 claim does not establish a separate USB-supply rating. Joycome and Jsdoin’s IP65 claims are listing-level evidence. Taylor & Brown’s supplied IP44 claim concerns the transformer and is awaiting exact-pack confirmation.
Don’t turn “window/outdoor” into a promise that the entire setup is weatherproof. Check the lights, power supply, controller and connections separately. Our outdoor Christmas lights guide explains that distinction.
How we researched these window lights
We started with the supplied Amazon UK editorial shortlist: plain curtains, decorative star curtains and a single silhouette. We checked current manufacturer pages and accessible marketplace/secondary descriptions. The exact Amazon pages could not be retrieved independently during this pass, so this is not presented as a fresh live-search audit.
Ollny and Christow provide useful first-party documentation. Joycome, Jsdoin and Taylor & Brown rely more heavily on listing or Amazon-linked data. Research Notes show that difference, identify sources and leave unconfirmed mounting and component ratings unresolved.
We have not physically tested these lights or analysed a representative sample of exact-product reviews. No ratings, review counts or live prices are used. Read our methodology.
No window laboratory. And no promise that a suction cup will remain attached forever to the one window in your house that apparently rejects all known forms of adhesion.
